If you already have an analog receiver, please experiment with the DSR-2040 before disconnecting your old analog receiver. Move the Dish to Galaxy 7 and view channel 10 (Shop at Home).
Turn the power off on your old analog receiver. Disconnect the C band from the old analog receiver and connect it to the 'DIGITAL' input of the 2040. Connect the 'DIGITAL OUT' to ANA-A of the 2040 using the small cable wire provided with the unit. Turn on the power of the 2040 receiver. Enter the MAIN MENU and select INSTALLATION submenu. Choose TP CONFIGURATION and select satellite GALAXY 7.
Use the VOLUME key to move through the different satellites stored in the 2040. When you reach GALAXY 7, use the Channel down to point to the LNB line. Press OK to view the LNB setting. Make sure the LNB has the following setting. LNB Type = STANDARD Frequency HIGH = 05150 Polarity Control = SKEW 0/12 Volts SWITCH = Disable 22KHz = Disable DiSEqC = Disable.
Select Same Param for LNB and Press OK. Press the MENU key to return back to the TP CONFIGURATION submenu. Use the CHANNEL DOWN key to point to the first TP line and press OK.
Select POSITION and press OK to save the current position of satellite. GALAXY 7 is now stored at the current position. Press the MENU key to return back to the TP CONFIGURATION submenu. Select SEARCH CHANNELS and press OK The 2040 will proceed to search all the digital free to air TV and RADIO channels available on the vertical polarity of GALAXY 7. (Please note that setting the original analog receiver to channel 10 sets the polarizer in the feed horn to vertical polarity, and since the 2040 is not connected to the polarizer yet, the polarizer is fixed at the vertical polarity). If the old analog receiver was set to channel 21 -Bet on Jaz- then the 2040 will search all the horizontal polarity signal because in this case, the polarizer is fixed at horizontal polarity. Once you connect the polarizer wires (Red, White, and Black for +5V, Pulse and Ground), then the 2040 will automatically switch the polarizer to the correct polarity.
For now, do not connect the polarizer wires. When the search is finished, keep pressing the MENU key until you return back to the main TV screen. Use Channel UP and DOWN buttons to vie the DIGITAL FTA channels. A number of channels may be encrypted (normally will have a $ sign before the name) and will not be viewable, they will display the message 'Service not available'. To search for a single frequency. Use the CHANNEL DOWN key in the TP CONFIGURATION submenu to point to the desired frequency, press OK then go down the SEARCH CHANNELS and press OK again.
When finished, press the MENU key until you return back to the main screen. The Sat Cruiser DSR-2040 is programmed to receive 500 analog channels. The unit is programmed for 40 channels that keep repeating. Please note that just like your old analog receiver, when you search for channels in the analog mode, the receiver will lock onto frequencies that may not have a video or audio picture. Press the ANA/DIG key then the OSD key. Set the 2040 to channel number 1 by pressing 0001.
Press the GUIDE key to loop through the ANALOG MENU. Press the GUIDE key until you see the VIDEO submenu. Use the CHANNEL DOWN key to go down the ALL SCAN then press OK The 2040 will scan all the channels available on that satellite (Remember that the polarizer is set to one position only the vertical or horizontal polarity, when the polarizer wires are finally connected, it will search both polarities). Please note that when you scan the channels, the analog channel list will be overwritten from the current channel position forward. For example if you are at channel 35, the ALL SCAN function will overwrite the channels from 35 forward. Press the OSD key again to start viewing the channels.

Please note that if you hear sound, but you can not see analog picture, press the OSD key to get out of the menu mode. You can also press the GUIDE key while viewing the analog channels, the menu will be in transparent mode where you can see the actual analog picture behind the menu. To switch back and forth between analog and digital modes press the ANA/DIG key. Once you feel comfortable with the unit, turn the power off. Disconnect the wires from your old analog receiver -MAKE SURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF ON BOTH RECEIVERS- and connect them to the 2040 as follows. Please note the the colors of the wires may vary depending. The two heavy gage wires and the 3 thin wires (one bundle) connect to the actuator.
The other 3 wires (second bundle) connect to the polarizer. 3 Polarizer wires Thin Red connect to +5V Thin White connect to PULSE Thin Black connect to GROUND 4 Actuator wires Thin brown connect to PULSE Thin Green connect to GROUND MEDIUM WHITE connect to M1 MEDIUM RED connect to M2 Please note if the the dish moves east when it should be moving west then reverse the M1 and M2 wires. Also, make sure not to mix the thin red and white wires with the MEDIUM red and white wires which go to M1 and M2. You may damage the actuator sensor. An alternative approach to testing the unit is to keep the C Band connection connected to the old analog receiver. Connect the Ku band directly the the 'DIGITAL' input of the 2040. You can loop through to LNBB.
Please note that there might be no analog Ku signal on the satellite. Move the dish using the old analog receiver to TELSTAR 5 and set it to channel 8 (AB News feed which is Even polarity) and proceed to program the unit as described in the TO CONFIGURATION submenu. Program frequency 12152H SR=20000. You should receive 8 digital channels, Arabic, Thai, Chinese, Iranian). Once you feel comfortable with programming the DIGITAL and ANALOG parts of the 2040. You will be ready to discard your old receiver and program all the channels into the 2040.
You can use output channel UHF 40, or the RCA wire connections. RCA is preferred since UHF channel 40 will interfere with local cable if you have cable TV. Connect cable TV, or Antenna input into Antenna IN of the 2040 Connect the Polarizer wires as described above Connect the Actuator wires as described above If you have C Band only, connect the C Band to 'Digital IN' of the 2040 and connect 'DIGITAL OUT' to LNBA using the small cable wire provided with your 2040 if you have both C and Ku input, then you must split the C and Ku using 2 way power pass high frequency splitters.
Connect one leg of the C band to LNBA, one leg of the Ku band to LNBB. Connect the other leg of the C band to a 0/12 volts switch, and the leg of the Ku band to a 0/12 volts switch (Use can also use 22KHz switch or DiSEqC switch).
0/12 volts switch is preferable. Connect the output of the switch to 'DIGITAL IN' of the 2040. Connect the TV using UHF channel 40 (Set your TV to AIR not CABLE), or using the RCA wires.
Connect the polarizer wires Connect the actuator wires Enter the MAIN MENU and select INSTALLATION sub menu. Choose MOTORIZED ANT SETTING and select CHANGE LIMIT press OK then proceed to set the LOWER LIMIT. Use EAST key or VOLUME key to move the dish to the lower limit. If the dish moves east when it should be moving west, turn the unit off and reverse the actuator's M1 and M2 connection.
Make sure not to go too far or the dish may tip. If the dish tips, no harm will be done, have someone push the dish slightly as you move it back with the remote control. Press OK to set the lower limit. Proceed to set the upper limit to reach the farthest satellite to the west. Press OK to store the upper limit. You are now ready to program the satellites. It is easier to program the satellite in analog mode rather than in digital mode.
However, you need to remember to STORE the dish position in analog mode, otherwise the dish position will be lost when you move to the next satellite. Once you find a satellite. Scroll down to the STORE section and press OK. The 2040 comes preprogrammed for a number of North America's satellites. It also has 10 user defined satellites. You will need to program the satellite names and types C or Ku (positions can be programmed later). Proceed to add the satellites you wish to program.
While in digital mode, press MENU, OK, INSTALLATION, OK, TP CONFIGURATION, OK. Use the volume key to traverse the satellite names.
If the satellite in question is not already in the system, use USER1 through USER10 to select it. Pressing the OK key at the satellite name allows you to change the satellite name.
Go down to the LNB line and Press OK, the LNB menu will be displayed. Select the LNB input as LNBA (C band) or LNBB for Ku Band. For the 0/12 volts select 0 volts for C band, and 12 volts for Ku Band. For the Polarity select SKEW if you have a big dish with motorized polorator (almost all big dishes have this type).
Move the dish to the west limit and start programming the satellites eastward. Please note that just like the old analog receiver where you have to identify a channel on a satellite, you will have to do the same, however you will have to use the channel frequency to find the channel rather than the channel number. The following is a list of channels and their frequencies on the various satellites. The list is not complete, it is just a sample. Satellite Location Analog Channel Analog Freq.

Press the OSD key to get into the analog MAIN MENU. Press the GUIDE key until you see Th VIDEO menu. Select the satellite name from the list of satellites using the VOLUME key, then enter the frequency from the above table.
Move the dish east or west until you find the desired channel. Select the dish POSITION from the LNB menu (press GUIDE until you see the LNB menu) and go down to the STORE line and press OK. Please note that if you do not store the position of the satellite, you will not be able to return to it in either analog or digital mode.
You MUST store the dish position in the LNB menu. Press the GUIDE key to go back to the VIDEO menu and select the ALL SCAN line and press OK. When you scan all channels, it is quite possible that the 2040 will find channels from the next satellite, those satellites will come in weak and will be grainy. However, all the channels on the actual satellites will come in very clear. Proceed to locate the next satellite and store it. When all the satellites are stored switch back to digital mode and program the digital channels as described in above in the setup section. If the 2040 fails to lock onto a strong digital frequency, you may need to move the dish position east or west, or adjust the skew in digital mode.
It would be best if you use a satellite finder like the SF-95 to peak the dish to its highest signal. If there is analog channel, then peak the dish on the analog channel, if not peak it on the digital frequency. However be careful to to venture too far from the satellite or the Satfinder will be giving you signals from the next satellite. You can copy either the TV Channels only, or the TV channels and receiver's firmware. To initiate the copying process, please follow these directions. Prepare the two receivers.
