Same Problem here. I read about this in many forums. I wrote to Rockstar to help me fix the save issue. They wrote me 2 E-Mails in which they asked me to reinstall the game (30g), update the sound and video driver, use regcleaner, run the game as admin etc.

After i did everything they said, i still have the problems and wrote another email. After one week now, i am still waiting for an answer. It ll be the last rockstar game i ll buy for now and i am really upset about the lousy support.

Did you write them as well? Fixed for me! I've had the same (or similar) problem: I've played until the beginning of chapter 4 and quited the game.

Latter on that day when I went to play again I could not load from where I've stopped! I was only able to restart from checkpoint 14 on chapter 2. And even stranger: all my achievements from chapters 3 and 4 were listed as completed. Before writing to Rockstar I've uninstalled, reinstalled and played the game again until where I was before.

Same thing happened. Then, I wrote to Rockstar and they answered me quickly (thanks, dudes!) saying that it was due to a problem with Steam Cloud and that I should disable it. I wrote a reply and they told me to to uncheck the 'read only' property on my save game files located on 'my documents my games'. When I went to check this folder I realized that there was no Max Payne folder there (it was somewhere else on my pc and don't ask me how it got there!). I simply copied the 'Rockstar Games' folder and pasted it under the 'my games' one. It worked just like a charm!

The question is: how did that Rockstar Games disappeared?!?!? I don't recall moving it to another place on my hard disk. Anyway: do as i said and see if it works for you. Glad to help, Douglasbnr.
