I know the Sausage Fattener plug-in by Dada Life is generally frowned upon around here and that all it really does is distortion and compression, but every time I add in my own distortion and compression it doesn't sound nearly as good. What do I need to do/plug-ins do I need to use to emulate exactly what the Sausage Fattener does to make things sound so good? I really want to escape the limitations that it puts on a track by simply using it once, but still have access to the power that it can give to whatever you use it on. Thanks in advance for the help. You should keep using it if you like how it sounds, that is the most important thing.

However, for alternatives for distortion / tube / limiting type effects you could do much worse than looking to:. D16 Group Decimort and Devastor (I think they're called, something similar anyway) - some incredible tones to be had from those (as well as all the other D16 plugins). PSP Vintage Warmer 2. Fabfilter Saturn (multi-band distortion plugin with that incredible flexibility of the fabfilter interface). It doesnt really matter if it's 'frowned upon' if the result is exactly what you want.

That being said, stating it 'JUST compresses/limits and distorts', is not really doing it justice. Not because the compression/limiting and distortion in the dadalife pluing is exceptional, but because there are SO MUCH different plugins who compress or distort. So it all comes down to trying as much as you can get your hands on until you find a chain of plugins that you're happy with. As a last point of advice, I wouldn't distort a sound completely, send it to a sidechain and distort that sound, mix it in with the original for better results.

Contents. What is? The Sausage Fattener just has two handles.

Yet, don’t be tricked. With those apparently basic parameters, you can make heaps of various sounds. Utilize the Sausage Fattener on a solitary channel with direct settings as a melodic compressor. Turn it up and you have a grimy knave of twisting.

The FATNESS knob boosts the initial signal by as much as 30dB while at the same time adding complex saturation, which is subtle distortion caused by introducing upper harmonics to the fundamental tone. The COLOR knob adjusts the harmonic relationships within the saturation algorithm. By adjusting the COLOR knob and increasing its value, you begin to increase the amplitude or volume of the uppermost harmonics, which causes the timbre to become brighter.
